Churches Together in Wivenhoe

In 1997 the Churches of Wivenhoe, St. Mary's, St. Monica's(RC), the Methodist and the Congregational, signed a covenant to work together as Churches Together in Wivenhoe (CTW). Subsequently they have been joined by a representative of the Society of Friends and local members of Kingsland Church, Lexden.

An organising committee consisting of representatives of all the churches meets to plan activities, which are aimed at presenting a united witness to the town and fostering friendship and fellowship amongst local Christians.

The current chairman is Pastor Patrick Baxter and the secretary is Paula Collins. Paula may also be contacted on 07747829710

Activities of Churches Together in Wivenhoe

During the year a series of united services are held, each church taking it in turn to host the event, on Good Friday, at Pentecost, Harvest Tide and Advent. CTW is also responsible for organising the service to launch Christian Aid Week each year, and a service of Remembrance at All Souls Tide for those recently bereaved.

A Lent Study course is held each year, together with some 'Frugal' lunches, and an annual Carols on the Quay event, both of which raise money for charities. Each year a Quiet Day is held, usually at Elmstead Church, giving an opportunity for reflection, prayer and meditation.

The group welcomes requests for prayer and, in the Methodist Church, in the corridor between the church and the hall, there is a notice board where requests can be pinned up.

For more confidential requests there is a collecting box.

Any requests received will be collected up and taken to the Prayer Meeting each month.
