The musical activities at St. Mary's are an important part of the worship with several varying forms and styles being used as appropriate.
St. Mary's Church Choir sings for all the main church services and has 14 regular members.
Our repertoire is quite varied covering most periods of music and ranging from unaccompanied 16th century anthems, through several centuries of composition to modern worship songs.
We use two or three recently composed settings of the Eucharist service which we alternate throughout the year.
We normally rehearse either on Thursday evenings or, when the St. Mary's Singers are meeting, at 9.45am on Sunday mornings before the main church morning service.
There are no strict rules about regular attendance, but obviously the Sunday morning 10.30am service is the main focus.
The choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and members regularly take part in training and singing events which are organised by the RSCM locally.
Choir members, with other instrumentalists, often play brass or woodwind instruments for some of our services and for the annual Carols on the Quay event.
We would welcome any other interested singers who may like to join us, for all voice parts. Contact Graham Wadley on 01206-824036 or by email.
